MAI Capital Management has acquired Waypoint Wealth Counsel for $490.0 million, a transaction that brings the Atlanta-based advisory team into MAI’s national platform. The deal, which closed under terms agreed upon by both firms, adds a fee-only investment management and financial advisory practice to MAI’s existing operations.

Waypoint operates as an independent advisory team serving clients through a model built on transparency, objectivity, and integrity. The firm develops long-term partnerships with clients by focusing on core needs and offering advice that is not tied to any outside financial institution. Its approach centers on defining clear strategic goals to help clients navigate complex financial systems, a philosophy that will remain intact under new ownership.

For MAI Capital Management, the acquisition expands its geographic footprint into the Southeast and deepens its bench of advisory talent. Waypoint’s fee-only structure aligns with MAI’s broader service offerings, allowing the combined entity to deliver consistent, conflict-free guidance across a wider client base. The transaction also brings a team whose independent status and client-first culture complement MAI’s existing practices, reducing integration risk while broadening revenue streams.

Waypoint’s advisors will continue to serve their existing clients from Atlanta, with operational support from MAI’s infrastructure. The firms expect the transition to be seamless for current clients, as day-to-day relationships and service models remain unchanged. Financial terms beyond the purchase price were not disclosed, and no changes to leadership or staffing have been announced.

The combined firm will now operate with a larger asset base and a more diverse set of client relationships across multiple regions. MAI’s acquisition of Waypoint positions the company to pursue further growth in the Southeast while maintaining the independent, objective advice that has defined Waypoint’s practice.
