Adial Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ADIL) has acquired Azora Therapeutics, a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on developing novel therapies for serious inflammatory diseases, including ulcerative colitis (UC). The transaction was completed for an undisclosed amount, with terms not publicly detailed by either party.

Azora brings a pipeline centered on addressing inflammatory pathways that are distinct from current standard-of-care treatments. Its lead candidate targets mechanisms implicated in UC, a condition with limited durable treatment options for many patients. Adial, which has concentrated its development efforts on addiction and central nervous system disorders, is broadening its therapeutic scope through this purchase, gaining access to Azora’s preclinical and clinical assets without the need to build new research infrastructure from scratch.

The rationale for the deal lies in portfolio diversification and risk sharing.
