OceanaGold Corporation has acquired Ausgold Limited in a deal valued at $549.0 million. The transaction, structured as an all-cash offer, brings the Katanning Gold Project in Western Australia under OceanaGold’s ownership, marking a significant expansion of its Australian asset base.
Ausgold has been advancing the Katanning project toward development, with an updated Definitive Feasibility Study released in December 2025 confirming a long-life, low-risk operation. The study outlined forecast life-of-mine production of 1.22 million ounces of gold over an initial 10-year mine life, with average annual output of 143,000 ounces in the first four years and a stronger production profile in years five through ten. The company had been focused on permitting, land access, and project financing, targeting first production in late 2027.
For OceanaGold, the acquisition adds a near-term development asset in a stable mining jurisdiction, complementing its existing operating portfolio. The Katanning project’s projected production profile is expected to bolster OceanaGold’s output in the latter half of the decade, providing a bridge as its current mines mature. The deal also reduces Ausgold’s financing risk by transferring development capital requirements to a larger, established producer.
The acquisition is expected to streamline project execution, with OceanaGold’s operational expertise likely accelerating the path to first gold. The combined entity will have a broader geographic footprint and a more diversified production pipeline, though integration efforts will focus on permitting timelines and cost controls at Katanning. The transaction is anticipated to close following regulatory approvals, with Ausgold’s shareholders receiving the cash consideration per share.
